The so-called mini-bypass represents a combination of a sleeve gastrectomy and the common gastric bypass and carried out laparoscopically as well. This operation is indicated in severely overweight patients, as it restricts the metabolism of ingested food stronger. Similarly, the duodenum is completely bypassed by the food passage. The advantage over the conventional gastric bypass is that only one anastomosis is created. In order to achieve a satisfactory long-term weight loss and to avoid malnutrition, a lifelong follow up is mandatory.
